Artist Statement

Nature is something that is all around us; it is something beautiful that we can never escape. Its beauty has always captivated and inspired me. It drives my creativity in seeing how various parts can be integrated into one piece. Different themes of nature weave in and out between each artwork. Whether it is bugs, birds, fish, flowers, you name it, it has somehow been incorporated into my work. Currently, a large portion of my work surrounds beetles, as I find the seemingly infinite types to be continuously interesting. I find there is always a new beetle that shows a different color, texture, or pattern. When creating illustrations, my primary medium is watercolor, as I believe the fluidity helps to capture the essence of the chosen subject matter. My ceramics work consists of thrown stoneware with sculpted embellishments.
